feel with others and know you’re not alone.
come to a climate café
Climate emotions can feel very isolating. Discussing our feelings about the climate crisis is generally not welcomed in everyday interactions. And even when our climate feelings are welcomed, it can often be hard to stay connected to ourselves and each other, especially when our emotions are heightened.
Psychology for a Safe Climate runs events that bring people together to talk about their climate feelings in a supported way. At the heart of these offerings are our ongoing Climate Cafés.
what is a climate café?
A Climate Café is a facilitated gathering place—which can be hosted in person or online—where people connect with each other by sharing their feelings about the climate crisis.
Those first attending a Climate Café are taking a courageous step to show up with people they don't know. Climate Cafés welcome people taking this step, and support meaningful conversations between people who are:
Feeling isolated and have no one to talk to about their climate concerns;
Becoming aware of the climate crisis, often feeling overwhelmed, and not sure what next steps to take;
Directly impacted by the climate crisis and/or extreme weather events, and needing support and community connection;
Engaged and taking action.
At a Climate Café there is no guest speaker, no advice given, no call for action. Instead, you’ll find a supportive, facilitated conversational space to gather and share thoughts and feelings in response to the climate crisis. You can voice concerns that may not be welcomed or echoed elsewhere in your daily life, and you’re invited to share with interested others how you’re really feeling at this challenging time. There may be laughter, there may be tears. There may be fear, there may be anger. Whatever you’re feeling is okay and valued. And it’s also fine just to come and listen.
Past attendees have shared that the greatest benefit of attending a Climate Café was to realise they were not alone. Cafés open up space for new ways of being and thinking in response to the climate and ecological crisis.
We have lots of upcoming Climate Cafés designed to support you throughout the summer period, and in an ongoing way.
